Chemistry & Bioactives

Eight standardized bioactives, one full-spectrum extract

Bacosane® is a chemically standardized, full-spectrum extract of Bacopa monnieri. Unlike conventional Bacopa extracts characterized only by total bacosides, Bacosane® preserves a defined profile of eight bioactive compounds — triterpenoid saponins, sapogenins, lactones and triterpenoid acids.

Asiatic acid

C₃₀H₄₈O₅
Pentacyclic triterpenoid acid

Associated in the Bacosane® patent with hippocampal cell proliferation, spatial working memory and learning-related pathways.

Ebelin lactone

C₃₀H₄₆O₃
Triterpenoid lactone

An aglycone marker that helps characterize the enriched triterpenoid fraction and distinguishes Bacosane® from extracts measured only for total bacosides.

Bacogenin A1

C₃₀H₄₈O₄
Dammarane-type triterpenoid sapogenin

A non-glycosylated triterpenoid marker contributing to the chemical identity and chromatographic fingerprint of the extract.

Bhramic acid

C₃₀H₄₈O₆
Pentacyclic triterpenoid acid

Also known as brahmic or madecassic acid. Identified in the patent as an antioxidant and anti-stress component of the Bacosane® profile.

Bacoside A3

C₄₇H₇₆O₁₈
Dammarane-type triterpenoid saponin

A principal saponin marker within the standardized bacoside fraction, contributing to the characteristic chemistry of Bacopa monnieri.

Bacopaside I

C₄₆H₇₄O₂₀S
Sulfated triterpenoid saponin

A distinct saponin marker that broadens the extract's glycoside profile beyond Bacoside A3 alone.

Bacopaside II

C₄₇H₇₆O₁₈
Triterpenoid saponin

A complementary bacopaside marker retained within the full-spectrum bacoside-rich fraction.

Jujubogenin

C₃₀H₄₈O₄
Triterpenoid sapogenin

An aglycone marker contributing to the extract's characteristic triterpenoid fingerprint and overall chemical identity.

Full-Spectrum Chemistry

The multi-bioactive synergistic advantage

Bacosane® preserves the authentic botanical fingerprint of Bacopa monnieri by delivering eight standardized, synergistic bioactives rather than a single isolated constituent. Naturally co-occurring saponins, sapogenins, triterpenoid acids, and lactones are enriched through a patented process to provide a comprehensive phytochemical matrix with rigorous batch-to-batch consistency. The patented composition delivers synergistic antioxidant, anti-stress, neuroprotective, and cognitive-supporting properties.

Standardization

Analytical method

  • Available standardized grades: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%
  • Primary analytical technique: High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • Markers evaluated: Bacosides, asiatic acid, bacogenin A1, ebelin lactone, bacoside A3, bacopaside I, bacopaside II, bhramic acid and jujubogenin
  • Quality objective: Consistent assay and chromatographic identity across production batches

The granted patent specifies HPLC for determining bacosides and asiatic acid. A separate HPLC method uses a C18 column, a methanol-water mobile phase, a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and UV detection at 278 nm for bacogenin A1 and ebelin lactone.
